After ordering is also always before the considerations, for the perfect first set up and equipment. Do you know that: Somehow the rear garage looked bigger with the demonstration vehicles ...? In order to make the best possible use of the space, we consider in advance how each centimeter can be usefully used. Some space has already been lost through our reserve gas cylinder. Nevertheless, we are happy and partly rely on always having a second bottle with us. In many countries of northern Europe we have no chance to exchange or fill our butane gas cylinder. Therefore, the replacement bottle gives us the necessary flexibility.
I do not even know how many times Sirko measured the inch in the rear garage until he found the optimal variant or layout. Fixed shelves were out of the question for us as we wanted to stay flexible. In our opinion, shelf systems also provide space that we would rather use elsewhere, because for the week-long tours, we actually need any storage space. That's why we opted for a system with standardized Euro boxes on a non-slip surface and are thus extremely satisfied after more than 40,000 kilometers and many weeks in the van.
The most important items in the rear garage at a glance
In our van we are just as in the interior - in the rear garage not much space available. Therefore, you have to limit yourself and think in detail which items make sense and are useful for the respective road trip. On our travels, we have more and more found our routine and so our packing system gradually optimized. Now our system is quite sophisticated and practical, because nothing is more annoying than having to clear out the entire rear garage for a frequently used item. Meanwhile, we only switch between "summer package" (with barbecue and camping furniture) and the "winter package" (with additional heating and snow chains etc.).
